Job Summary

  • Coordinates, plans, organizes, and monitors the work of the laboratory.
  • Performs clinical laboratory tests.
  • Directs medical technologists, medical laboratory technicians, clerks and phlebotomists working on the evening/night shift.
  • Coordinates, plans, organizes, and monitors the work of the laboratory.
  • Performs clinical laboratory analysis of body fluids or tissues in areas such as Chemistry, Hematology, Blood Bank, Urinalysis, and limited Microbiology testing in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Performs and/or gives supervision for laboratory collection and processing procedures.
  • Documents results and applicable information.
  • Provides technical leadership and expertise to the assigned team.
  • Maintains quality control and calibration functions.
  • Assists supervisor with general management functions.
  • Maintains work area, and encourages coworkers to do the same. Assists supervisor with compliance.
  • Oversight of training checklists and competencies in the CAP competency module.
  • Evaluate new methodologies, reagents, and instrumentation as required. Act as a technical resource for staff and provide leadership regarding new developments in the field.
  • Serve as a planning resource to the Supervisor and the Department.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree from a four (4) year MT or HTL program approved a National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences or equivalent or eligible.
  • Must meet the minimum requirements of the Clinical Laboratory Act of 1988.

Experience

  • 3 years experience as MT/MLS/CLS/HTL

(Above requirements can be met by equivalent combination of education and experience)

Licensure/Certification

  • Registered as MT (ASCP/AMT) or HTL (ASCP/AMT) or equivalent.

Other Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Requires organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to manage personnel and deal with controversial issues in a professional manner

Compensation/Benefits

  • $30.11-$49.17/hr depending on previous work experience.
